Claudio Locatelli

Claudio Locatelli moved to France at the age of twenty to study drawing and sculpture, and in 1994 was accepted at the École Nationale Supérieure de Beaux-arts de Paris, where he initially worked in clay from live models with Jean Francois Duffau, assistant to the sculptor César. He then joined the studios of Jean Cardot, Bruno Lebel and Georges Jeanclos, where he sculpted both clay and new materials.
In 1998, he wins a scholarship and moves to Valencia (Spain), where he discovers and models stoneware. He is selected to exhibit at the Bancaixa Foundation. Back in Paris, he creates a model of a monumental sculpture for Cogedim. In 1999, he prepares his final diploma under the guidance of Giuseppe Penone and the advice of Richard Daecon. His work is regularly exhibited by Parisian galleries. Since 2005, Galerie Forni d’Italie has been exhibiting his work and presenting it at contemporary art fairs in Italy and abroad: Arte Fiera Bologna, Art Amsterdam, London Art Fair, Art Helsinski, Art Brussels, St-Art Strasbourg, Lille Art Fair…
“A need for experimentation gradually led me to use so-called poor or ordinary materials, such as newspaper, in my creations. The paper is cut, folded and shaped to give the structure of the work its shape and identity.
He also takes part in group exhibitions organized by the Bertrand Delacroix gallery in New York and Boston. In 2015, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris commissioned three sculptures for its Chien-Chat exhibition. In 2017 he received the Prix de Sculpture Paul-Louis Weiller, awarded by the Institut de France – Académie de Beaux-arts. In 2020, he is a resident at the Fondation Dufraîne.
