Efflorescence

Denis Dailleux
From May 20, 2021 to July 10, 2021

“… In this strange music of smells, the melodic phrase that always came back, dominating, smothering the tenderness of vanilla and the sharpness of orchids, was this human odor.” Emile Zola

Pierre Passebon is pleased to present Denis Dailleux’s third exhibition.

In 2007, “Du Nil dans mes veines” (From the Nile in my veins) brought together some thirty photographs, depicting the daily life of Egyptians in a halo of melancholy and diffuse sensuality.

In 2013, the “Mother and Son” exhibition revealed moving duets of modest love and tender gestures sketched against an Oriental backdrop.

Today, Denis Dailleux continues to explore the world with the same sensitive eye. Gathered under the title Efflorescence, his photographs capture graceful, poetic moments in Morocco and India. The portraits are still intense and moving, but for the first time they are accompanied by still lifes in subtle colors, making them veritable tableaux.

A common thread unites these 23 shots: the flower. A theme that recalls his early days in Paris. Before becoming a professional photographer, Denis Dailleux spent ten years as a florist with Christian Tortu. No doubt something of this remains in the composition of his images. Whether in the Atlas Mountains or at a market stall in Calcutta, his talent as a photographer reveals and makes us feel the beauty, yet accessible to all, of the ephemeral.
