Baron de Cabrol’s Scrapbooks and the Café Society

Thierry Coudert

Daisy and Fred de Cabrol were one of the most prominent couples in twentieth-century international high society. Aristocrats, they went hunting with the princesse de Caraman-Chimay, frequented the maharané of Kapurthala, Queen Amélie of Portugal and the Comte de Paris, and were close to the Windsors and intimate members of the Café Society. They were at every ball, from Etienne de Beaumont and Marie-Laure de Noailles to the majestic Palazzo Labia in 1951, at the Bal du Siècle photographed by Cecil Beaton.

We discover this privileged world through scrapbooks kept with talent and wit by Baron de Cabrol from 1938 to the 1960s, tracing through collages, watercolors and unpublished period documents the exceptional career of a couple, actors and witnesses of a golden age of elegance and art.
