Édouard Taufenbach and Bastien Pourtout

Photographe
Bastien Pourtout , born in 1982, holds a Master’s degree in Economic and Social History from Paris X (2012) and a Master’s degree in Photography and Contemporary Art from Paris VIII (2019). Edouard Taufenbach, born in 1988, holds a Master’s degree in Digital Arts and Media from Paris I (2014).
Since Spéculaire (2018-2019), they have been working together around Sébastien Lifshitz’s collection of vernacular photographs. Their collages are shown at Binôme gallery, at Paris Photo the same year, and the following year in Rome, London, Mexico City and New York, at the Athens Photography Festival, and at Villa Noailles. They publish a monograph on this project with Editions L’Artière. Then they present La méthode (2020), based on the structures of Josef Albers’ Homamges au carré.
“The basis of their two-person practice is defined as a method made up of protocols and games.”
In 2020, they won the Prix Swiss Life à 4 mains for their project Le bleu du ciel, about the flight of the swallow. They went on a residency at the Villa Medici to complete this work, and decided on their return to become an artistic duo.
