Ivan Terestchenko sculpts small, poetically charming figures of surfers.
What’s special about these glazed terracotta figures is that they’re flat, like the cut-out silhouettes of a shadow play, and their contours have an unfinished look.
“I like this imprecise, random aspect,” comments Ivan.
The technique is the same, but Ivan Terestchenko’s surfers have become young gods of Olympus, modern Apollos evolving in a neo-classical universe of columns, capitals and shells.
Although they may appear naive, their composition, the care taken in reproducing soil or architecture, and their fragility make them precious decorative objects.
Some also have a practical function: lamps, desk sets, boxes, planters, mirrors.
