José Sierra

Sculpteur
In 2000, he moved to Iowa, where he enriched his artistic work with pottery. He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Memories of the intensely-colored mountains, pre-Columbian art and architecture of Venezuela’s Andean region are among his inspirations. These references are combined with contemporary design.
The range of textures and colors of the Andes also informs his palette of glazes and engobes. By altering porcelain and stoneware on the wheel, his work fuses organic and geometric forms, expressing both fluidity and rupture. His pieces are often monumental.
