Muriel Persil
Muriel Persil was born in Paris in 1966 into a family of artists. Beginning in 1986, she studied at the City of Paris Fine Arts Studios and then at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
Between 1989 and 1990, she trained at the CNACFAG [graphic arts training center] and earned her diploma as a set design assistant. For many years, she focused her professional career on set painting while continuing her artistic exploration.
She did not begin her career as a ceramic artist until relatively late, in 201. And from the very start, she demonstrated a highly refined technical mastery, working with stoneware, earthenware, and porcelain to create a rich repertoire of organic forms, enhanced by her particularly skillful use of glazing. Beyond the admiration for the meticulousness of the modeling and the delicacy of the glazes, the work reveals its depth—an obvious evocation of the cycle of life and death, of boundless power, and of nature’s abundance. The result is a poetry of metamorphosis in which natural forms serve as a symbolic language of flowers, fruits, and animals.
This work lies somewhere between the legacy of Bernard Palissy and the exuberance of Mexican folk art.
Since 2019, she has been alternating between creating monumental sculptures and pieces that trace the history of decorative ceramics.
