Following his exhibition of the Ciboure vase collection (Karl Lagerfeld collection) at the Galerie du Passage, Pierre Passebon began collecting ceramics by Roger Capron on the same antique theme. This very Sixties “Greek revival” revives the mythology of antiquity and evokes the constant evolution of tastes and styles around this theme over the centuries.
In 1959, at the same time as Roger Capron was creating his series of ceramics devoted to antiquity, the most celebrated and award-winning of all peplums hit the screens: Ben Hur (5 Oscars). The film’s success accompanied that of Roger Capron’s ceramics throughout the 60s. The body language of these figures has been remembered since antiquity. The title of the exhibition was inspired by the enthusiasm with which Madeline Miller’s “Song of Achilles” was read in 2011.
Roger Capron’s ceramics collection, presented by Pierre Passebon at Galerie du Passage, comprises around 75 pieces.
